Sokcho - Korea's East Coast

Went out to Sok'cho by bus a couple days ago...

We took a bus out there, 3.5 hours each way at a cost of 20,000 won (about 25$). But the bus was really nice, it was three seats across instead of four so you had a lot of room. It also had nice foot rests, too. Below is a picture of some walnut cakes I purchased at a rest stop. I got them hot and fresh out of the baking machine and promptly burned the hell out of my mouth.

My friend brought her skim board and we did some skim boarding. Actually, she did. I mostly just fell over or missed landing on the board completely.

Korean beaches are interesting. Like all recreational activities in Korea, even snowboarding, they try to control the crowds by making them only play in certain areas. So while most of the beach was empty if you tried to go to the empty parts the life guards would come over and tell you to come back to the sectioned-off part of the beach. Below is a picture of the unused part of the beach. This is where we did some skim boarding and swimming.

They said this was safe and that the unsectioned part of the beach was dangerous. Maybe the rocks in the un-used part of the beach were harder and therefore more dangerous?

This is me. No, I'm not the little girl. I'm the one behind the skim board.

Sok'cho is also the area where you can go to see Soraksan. So we took a quick bus ride up there to talk to the rangers and get information about thur-hiking it. I'm definitely going back to thru-hike that park as well as chiri mountain.

More of Seoul - Again

More of Seoul...

These pictures are from a park that is in the middle of Seoul. The park is fairly new and reflects a growing trend in Korea, or at least Seoul, attempting to move towards a more green type of living. They have made a lot of parks in the town recently, which is, of course, a good thing.

Apparently this stream used to be covered by a road but they did some construction and uncovered the stream and turned it into a park.

It looks like a great place to hang out and it runs east/west through the heart of Seoul from East of Dongdaemun market towards the Blue House.

Insadong - Seoul

This is insadong. The old arts district of Seoul. for the most part it's just become a tourist trap for those looking for "Korean" art stuff like paintings, calligraphy, and various Korean crafts.

More of Seoul

This is a petty interesting building in Seoul that we came across the other day. I had seen it many times before but didn't know what it was. Apparently it's the central tax service of Korea or something like the IRS, if my Korean friends were right. Or maybe it was just a financial building. Who knows. You can go to the top of it and look around from the canopy like structure.

Where have I been?

I know, I've been gone for some time but things have been really busy lately. It should calm down soon. Anyways. I've got more pictures.

The first is Bukhan Mountain, a friend and I did some bouldering and rock climbing there the other weekend.

The second picture is of a large thing of fruit we stumbled across when walking back from a bouldering gym located in jong-no 4 street. We tried to look for a way to climb it but couldn't find any good places to start.

The third picture is a picture I took last night while wandering around my neighborhood. The picture is of the local university, Sookmyung. It was Africa-hot last night.

The last picture is also of the jong-no 4 street area. Water looks clean, huh? Yummy.

Future plans include checking out the snowboarding shops in Gangnam and probably some more bouldering. Wurd.
